somehow I missed this, but Neil Postman, author of 'Amusing Ourselves To Death', died earlier this month. he will be missed. if you've never read that seminal book, it's still a very timely and worthwhile read.

Very thoughtful analysis on the increasing disparity between how Washington sees itself and how the Muslim world interprets what American actions and comments mean.

there is so much smoke here in San Diego that it's about as dark as dusk in the middle of the afternoon. this is what I would imagine nuclear winter to look like. it's just so surreal and creepy. can't be too good for the lungs either.

kinda surreal flying into San Diego last night. saw some of the fires on the descent in. smoke everywhere. you can smell it in my apartment, in the office at work, there's soot on the rental car. unreal. i'm not terribly close to any of the actual fires, so thankful for that. lot of people suddenly homeless here. it's a good reminder for how much we take for granted.

there's a lot of new stuff in .Text I can use, so one thing I'm going to try to do is categorize at least some of my posts. So if the programming stuff bores you, but you want to see what music I'm listening to, you can check the music category. or vice versa. you'll catch on....
