Armin van Buuren @Vision

Well, I'm just waking up from a late night out at the Vision dance club here in Chicago.  The #3 DJ in the world (DJ Mag poll) Armin van Buuren was in town.  He's one of my favorites.  It's weird, I listen to a ton of dance music, but rarely go out to dance or see a DJ live.  It really has to be my kind of music before I really get into it. It's a pretty fun vibe, although not something I necesarily want to do every weekend.  But if the right DJ is spinning, it's loads of fun and a great atmosphere.  He was spinning from 1:30 to 4, 2 1/2 hrs straight with no breaks.  Insane.  It's nice to finally live in a city with a real nightlife when you're in the mood to do something.

Dell Axim X30

So I ordered one of these new Axims today.  I need something to get my butt in gear and start learning some new technology again and I've been wanting to get back into the .NET Compact Framework stuff.  These things are so cheap, especially considering what I paid for my original IPAQ a few years back.  I don't think I'm going to start carrying a PDA around again all the time, but at least it's something to play with.  Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built-in and running Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition (which has the cool display rotate and some other stuff).  Only $250, can you believe that?

The Thirteenth Floor

Well, I must say I was very impressed with this movie.  Finally rented it from Netflix.  Came out the same year as the Matrix and has some similar themes, but The Matrix got all the hype.  Not to take anything away from the original Matrix (which I love), but this is a very interesting and well-done movie.  If you like stuff like Blade Runner and Dark City, you definitely need to see this.  The less you know the better, but suffice it to say it deals with some of the same themes of the nature of reality, simulation in the age of computers, the corruption of power when you create world (a la The Truman Show), all kinds of fun stuff.  Plus it has a lot of great neo-noir elements, so it's right down my alley.  If you haven't seen this and you are into any of the movies I've mentioned, you should definitely put this on your must-see list.

Sam Phillips...

21. May 2004 13:21 by skills0 | 0 Comments

is coming to Chicago June 11th.  Tickets just purchased.

<soapbox>When is someone going to sue Ticketmaster for these ridiculous charges.  50% over the cost of the ticket just for their stupid charges.  How are they getting away with this?</soapbox>

Anyway, apparently she has a new album out as well.  How did I miss that?  Well, I guess it does tend to be quite awhile between albums anymore.  Maybe a trip to Virgin would be a good idea this weekend.
