Hello from Belize City

24. November 2004 10:32 by skills0 | 0 Comments

Down in Belize over Thanksgiving for a friend's wedding.  Got in yesterday.  Quite the change from Chicago, which could be getting a bit of snow today or tomorrow.  Here it is very tropical, 80s and extremely humid.  I'm reminded once again of how great we have it in the states and how much we take for granted on a daily basis.  I think if everyone in the US traveled overseas at least once, a lot of attitudes would change.  Belize City is an interesting place, a mixture of progress and decay.  The people so far have been very friendly, if a little reserved.  It's nice that English is the language here.  Was thinking yesterday when asking for directions how much harder this would be if I didn't speak the language.  More later.

Bug tracking with VS Team System

4. November 2004 08:12 by skills0 | 0 Comments

ScottGu mentions that the internal bug tracking app they are using for the ASP.NET team and most other teams is going to likely make it into Visual Studio Team System.  He also discusses a bit more of the how and why, workflow, etc. that they use internally.  Interesting.

P.S. Scott is blogging more regularly again, so if you really want to keep up with the latest ASP.NET developments his blog is a good way to do so.

No plan for Iraq ... or something worse?

This article puts forth the idea that contrary to having no plan for Iraq, the Bush administration actually planned to use Iraq as a great capitalist experiment by immediately privatizing everything, selling off state assets, opening the country wide for trade and foreign investment, etc.  The closest thing to pure capitalism possible in the real world.  Unfortunately, much of it is backfiring and it does explain a lot of the weirdness we are seeing over there.  Well worth a read.

This is depressing

While I don't think John Kerry was a superb candidate who had all the answers, I can't believe the majority of Americans think George Bush deserves another 4 years.  I know a lot of well-meaning people, including friends of mine, voted for him, but I just don't get it.  This is a guy who can't form a coherent sentence, who makes decisions rashly and without all the facts, who runs into Iraq with no exit “strategery” (as evidenced by what we are seeing now).  But you've heard all this before and yet you still voted for him. What is up?
