Microsoft .NET Articles & Information
I have been working with Microsoft.NET since the pre-beta, starting in late August
2000. The more I get into .NET, the more I love it. I have been interested in doing
some writing about development, so I have contributed articles to several of the
large ASP.NET sites. In addition, I plan to use this site for additional code examples
and things I learn along the way, as well as resources that are helpful (sites,
books, etc).
I try to give back to the user community as much as I can, although with my new
job my schedule is a bit tighter. However, I try to make contributions to
the ASP.NET Forums as time permits.
I owe much of the knowledge I have to the help of a bunch of other patient people.
I still have a lot to learn. That's part of the fun. Remember, to be a teacher you
just have to know a little bit more than the person you are teaching. So give it
a try.
My Job
Since March of 2003 I have been working as a software development consultant
with Clarity Consulting in Chicago. I'm very excited to work with some
very talented people and continually sharpen my skills. Clarity uses a team approach
and is heavily focused on continued learning through mentoring and knowledge exchange.
I've already had some interesting opportunities, including doing quite a bit of
development at Microsoft for the Visual Studio .NET Online Rapid Evaluation sample
site on GotDotNet. I also worked on one of the keynote demos for Paul Flessner's
keynote at TechEd 2005. For awhile I traveled to be part of a major project out
in San Diego for Brandes Investment Systems. A few of my most recent projects are
a variety of online and in-house web enhancements for
Socrates Media and enhancements for the USG
b2b web site.
Previously I was at IMG Inc., a budget music distributor in Nashville TN for
3 and 1/2 years. My main focus was a music retail eCommerce site called CountryMusicUSA.com. The site was completely converted to .NET
in early 2002 shortly after ASP.NET 1.0 was released. The current site doesn't have
much in common with what I worked on while I was there.
I maintained our corporate Intranet for data entry and content management for IMG
music products, as well as business support apps (shipment tracking, reporting,
and account management). The final focus was on a catalog and report interface for
the music masters (recordings) owned by IMG and a route sales inventory
system. The IMG Intranet went live on .NET Beta 2 code late in 2001 and was fully
running on the release version shortly after RTM.
